Stonehill & Taylor was asked to design the 1,800 student standard facility as a prototype for intermediate school design after producing a report analyzing school construction methods. A subsequent survey of all intermediate school facilities by the teachers identified this school as the one that functioned the best, and Stonehill & Taylor was asked to adapt the design for another site in Staten Island.
