For repeat clients Highgate Holdings, Stonehill & Taylor provided the architectural and interior design services in the adaptive reuse of an existing 12-story office building into the newly opened boutique hotel. The inspiration for the design originates from the building itself, originally built in 1912 as a hat factory. Its ornate, neo-Gothic facade belies the predominantly industrial interiors. The design concept embraces this duality as a rich source of aesthetic tension, which is implemented in the design of the Lobby and continues throughout the Guestroom and rooftop designs. Although not a Landmark or located in a landmark district, the historic richness of the building makes it eligible to receive tax
credits through the State Historic Preservation Office.
