In spring 2008, Stonehill & Taylor completed construction of South Gate restaurant at the renowned Jumeirah Essex House. The restaurant was completely reconfigured to house two separate but connected spaces: a main dining area and a patisserie. Working in collaboration with Tonychi Associates, Stonehill & Taylor created a separate and distinct entrance for the restaurant from Central Park South; previously, the only entrance was in the hotel lobby. In a major architectural move, the floor slab was lowered, creating a more direct connection with the activity on the sidewalk and the park directly across the street. The main dining room features a dramatic fireplace, a 40-foot, glass-encased, temperature-controlled wine wall and rotating glass liquor cabinets.
